What this consultation covers
Aquablation therapy uses a high-velocity waterjet, guided by real-time ultrasound imaging, to remove excess prostate tissue with a degree of precision that conventional surgical methods cannot match. Unlike laser or heat-based procedures, Aquablation is entirely heat-free, which significantly reduces the risk of damage to surrounding tissue including the nerves responsible for sexual function and the sphincter muscles that control urinary continence.
Mr Alanbuki is one of a select group of consultant urological surgeons in the UK trained and experienced in Aquablation. During your consultation in London or the South East, he will review your symptoms, assess your prostate size and anatomy using imaging, and advise whether Aquablation is the most appropriate option for you or whether an alternative such as UroLift or TURP may better suit your individual anatomy.

Benefits of Aquablation
Robotic Precision
The procedure is pre-planned using ultrasound and robotically executed, removing only the targeted tissue and leaving surrounding structures intact.
Heat-Free Technology
Unlike laser or electrosurgery, Aquablation uses water not heat which dramatically lowers the risk of retrograde ejaculation and erectile dysfunction compared with traditional TURP.
Effective for Larger Prostates
Aquablation performs consistently well across all prostate sizes, making it particularly suitable for men with larger glands where other minimally invasive options may be less effective.
Rapid Recovery
Most patients are discharged within one to two days and return to normal daily activities within two weeks.
Frequently Asked Questions
Am I a suitable candidate for Aquablation?
Aquablation is suitable for most men with symptomatic benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), particularly those with moderate-to-large prostates or those who wish to preserve sexual function. Mr Alanbuki will assess your suitability at your consultation using a combination of symptom scoring, flow rate testing, and prostate imaging.
How does Aquablation compare to TURP?
Both procedures effectively relieve urinary obstruction caused by an enlarged prostate. However, Aquablation is heat-free and robotically controlled, resulting in a significantly lower rate of retrograde ejaculation (dry orgasm) compared with conventional TURP typically around 10–15% versus 65–90% for TURP making it the preferred choice for many sexually active men.
What is the recovery time after Aquablation?
Most patients spend one to two nights in hospital following the procedure. A urinary catheter is usually required for one to two days post-operatively. The majority of patients return to light activity within one week and normal daily activities including work within two to three weeks.
Is Aquablation available under private medical insurance in London?
Aquablation is available via most major private medical insurers and on a self-pay basis at our London clinic (Welbeck Men’s Health, Marylebone) and across our South East locations. Mr Alanbuki’s secretary can advise on authorisation requirements for your specific insurer.
